“What Are The Benifits Of Chanting Lord’s Holy Name – 21st Century Edition”

In a recent darshan, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma asks Premanand Maharaj, " kya Naam jap karne se sab ho jayega?

In today's 21st-century era, where we talk about Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Advanced weapons like
S-400, and technologies, these are no less than cozy dreams for a person in 1894. In this blog post, I, Prakum, will take you through our negligence of subtle things.
Before we embark, I want you to answer the following questions.
What is the real purpose of our life- is it the cycle from being a student, an employee, getting married - begetting children and maut ka intejaar?
Have you ever thought why we are here in this world?
Is there any reason we are given this beautiful body with superior characteristics over animals?
Are we nothing after death?
We are always in some or the other kind of problems, have we ever tried finding the real problems of our life?

Solving a problem is an inbuilt attribute of a human being since time immemorial. Every individual solves numerous problems of life since they take birth. Our Mother Earth has borne many genius brains, who are developing so many gross things that are beyond the imagination of a tender mind. despite these advancement we are struggling to solve the subtle problems of our life.

Lord Buddha was endowed with all material possessions. However, He had never come across the four major problems of this material age. For the very first time when he went out of his Royal palace, he came across four major problems of life that no one is trying to solve even in today's world. Birth, Death, Old age, and disease. In shastras, it is quoted as janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣa-anudarśanam, a painful subjection of the human body to these four problems of life. Everyone takes birth, but is not independent of the pangs of disease, the miserable life of old age, and ultimately, let go of this beautiful body that he has been maintaining with utmost care. Despite so many technological advancements, these problems could not be addressed. We get afflicted with one type of disease, get cured, and the other one may be on its way.

So, what does this human life meant for? Is this not for wealth accumulation, to live a regal life?
The three pillars of sikhism state Kirat Karni, Naam Japna, and Vand Chakna
"Kirat Karni," which means to earn an honest living. It is obvious that to maintain this body, we need to earn some income. Earnings should always be through an authorised source, without getting into the traps of shortcuts as is offered by so many betting apps and telegram fake groups. An honest living gives the most important feeling - Satisfaction. My mother says is adhering to this principle.

The next one is Naam japna. This social media generation, due to access to so many enticements offered by blind influencers, has forgotten this principle. Even after the accumulation of wealth, people are not truly satisfied. They wanted to gratify their senses that can never be completely gratified. Being subjected to the order of their senses they work hard like donkey without considering their mental and physical well-being. Anxiety disorders are a significant public health concern in India, affecting an estimated 18.1% of the population, or approximately 40 million adults.

Studies have shown that a large percentage of Indians experience anxiety and stress. It is simply because we are working for the satisfaction of this gross body, but what about the soul that is satisfied only by the name of god to which it is a part and parcel of.
Our scriptures says:

harer nāma harer nāma
harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva
nāsty eva gatir anyathā

In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. So, if we do not chant the name of god, the soul remains unsatisfied, which causes anxiety, hypertension, etc. Unsatisfaction is always the most important reason for anxiety. Therefore, it is very important for human beings, especially the young generation, to chant the name of god and taste the nectar of god, all beautiful names.

The third important pillar of Sikhism is Vand Chakna, meaning to share and consume together. In earlier times, families in many cultures lived in joint family systems, where grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins all lived together. However, with modernization, urbanization, and increasing focus on personal freedom and career, the nuclear family has become more common. The nuclear family weakens emotional bonds and support systems. Elders are absent, values fade, and loneliness grows. It promotes a self-centered life, reducing sharing and cultural connection. Moreover, it leads to mental stress due to isolation, lack of emotional support, and constant pressure to manage everything alone. Subtle issues like poor communication, emotional disconnect, and absence of a guiding presence quietly affect mental well-being, especially in children and working parents.

In chasing modern progress, we’ve forgotten life’s deeper purpose. Technology may solve outer problems, but not the inner ones—birth, death, disease, and suffering still remain. Sikhism’s pillars—Kirat Karni, Naam Japna, and Vand Chakna—remind us that true fulfillment lies in honest living, spiritual connection, and selfless sharing. It’s time to stop merely existing and start living with awareness, purpose, and heart.

Let’s embrace these timeless values today—earn honestly, remember the divine, and share generously—to find true peace in this fast-paced world.
